more SERPs for phrase match than broad match?

Sometimes, when comparing the number of content matching sites by conducting a phrase match search I get higher count of pages than with the same phrase in a broad match. What can cause this? Google error? What is the best way to read the results?

Probably just a google error. OR your broad phrase searches returns lots of duplicate results which google ignores.

Could be just a clutch, or maybe Google is fetching it's results from different data centers with update/outdated list of results ;)
