I mean starting websites. There are lots of get rich style ebooks out there that must prompt folks to build sites and try to make their millions.

I agree, but it is actually a good thing. Because in future many businesses will be run by internet and without having any physical office.

This will also give chance to developing countries to work and earn money from home.

I doubt so, but I don't think there is much statistics to quantify your statement. In a recession, money is an issue, for some, going online means forsaking their physical stores and saving on rentals, this is possible. For others, going online may just mean spending, spending on web sites to boost their egos. For such a category of people, they may well access the Internet lesser.

For the Get Rich ebooks, my advice is Get Real. You reap what you sow.

Not sure a recession would encourage people to start a website. If out of work, get a job. If things are tight, get a second job. Not sure a get-rich-quick-build-a-new-website theory will help anyone.

Dang, some quickfire answers there. I was just wondering if any of the domain registrars had released research into this kind of thing. I suspect many IT professionals would do freelance work if they found themselves out of work, if only in the short term to tide them over. With publishing becoming easier, would this extend to others too?

I believe there will be a huge shift in numbers to online business/marketing.The overhead of a brick and motor business that is stuck in a long term lease with annual increases in rent has killed many small(and large)companies.I myself have been unemployed now for just over 9 months.I started to check into online income plans about 45 days ago.Its a huge shift for me but I feel its the way to go at this point.Just getting another job isn't easy unless you want two minimun wage jobs. Here in San Diego you could not survive on 3 mw jobs.By the way I did own my own brick and motor business for 17 years. Thanks all!

I am not sure where you are looking; maybe refreshing DP / SP ? 'Internet' with it's over billion and growing users is far some saturated. Even so far some saturated that any idea, not matter how many times it is done can make you money. So not sure what you are on about.

Yeah there is lot of useless ebook that teach how to rich over night.
And its well known that no body get rich after doing what the book asking to do.
So there is useless to buy and read the book.
I would rather spend my time doing some part time job such as directory submission

I really think that internet can make a real impact in a few years, the more people will lose their jobs the more money will people earn on the internet this will be a golden age of the internet. More and more people will turn on the internet for business because there are low invesments to make the website and doing marketing is for free if you know how to do it. Smart people will get rich on the internet in no time.

    Cheers

I think people are looking at options, although I wouldn't trust the ones that make the promises that all you need to do is click on your computer, download a program and then you start making money. Nothing is that easy.

it will die out people are tight on cash now and trying to get rich quick out of desperation, just as i'm sure all those MLM marketing pyramid scheme scams are pretty HOT right now as well.
People will fail at it or realize the amount of work you REALLY need to do to make it work and give up.
the people that stick with it will make ends meet or may be really successful.

When people become desperate they take measures that they would not have done previously, this is not necessarily a bad thing because it can involve thinking creatively. The internet can offer a very cost effective way to set up and start a global business, it still offers people the real opportunity of being able to make a lot of money without ever leaving their living room - to me that is so exciting!

You know, everybody has the next big idea. Point being, web design is always going to be a big business, it's an information highway, either someone comes up with an idea and hires you, or someone else hires you to promote someone elses idea.
