Lenovo announced another battery recall, apparently due to overheating. Impact to the battery has been mentioned as a problem as well, though Lenovo is not really clear about this on their site: http://www.lenovo.com/batteryprogram Last year, there were quite a few recalls... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=143954 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=130194 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=124565 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=81325 Really makes you wonder....
What seems to be the common thread is that they are all high performance lithium-ion batteries, manufactured in Japan, I think they are all made by Sony and Sanyo. http://laptoping.com/category/laptop-batteries/ http://laptoping.com/category/laptop-batteries/page/2/ There are new standards and technologies coming soon. @w3bmaster: I think I would still be cautious, and not leave the laptop plugged in for long periods and definitely not unattended... though HP says they are safe due to the methods and standards they use, they are still Sony Li-ion batteries, and I was suprised by this recall... I thought they had already gotten them all.
Nothing wrong with the laptop manufacturer. In most cases it is the battery supplier that is at fault. My Dell laptop's battery was recalled which was fine with me as the original one was just about worn out. Now, I have a new battery which should last me a long time.
I got my laptop for 500 from walmart and love it! It never even gets warm at all after being on my lap for hours!!
