More harm then good?

I bought a domain and started a site about 6 months ago, everything was going well except that I never got indexed by Google. Turns out, the domain was banned, I assume it was banned before I ever bought it because I couldnt find it in Googles cache, on the Wayback Machine, etc. Yahoo was showing some really spammy looking links which didnt make me feel any better....

So, I decided to get the same domain in a different extension. Im indexed by all 3 SEs and trying to build links. Anyway, I have had a 301 redirect setup from the old banned domain to the new one to direct any old traffic to the new site. Im curious though, considering Google states that linking to "bad neighborhoods or banned sites can adversely affect your rankings", am I doing my new site more harm then good by 301 redirecting the old to the new?

Also, can I use a Javascript redirect instead? I know it wont pass PR, or backlinks but there arent many to speak of at this point and im more worried about getting the users going to the old domain, to the new site. But again, I dont want to get caught linking to "bad neighborhoods"

If your old traffic really that big., you can do a 301 redirection

Then just scrap that idea of doing 301, Add an image that tells your site has moved to the new site mentioning the site and dont link it to your new site

Or just do a javascript redirect so that the benefit of a redirection for users who land on the site, and you won't get an "link juice" transferred over to your new domain.

My advice is that check sites whether they are banned or not. Then you can continue doing webpage building and optimization.
Here I have tools for checking sites whether banned or not::)
