Seems a lot of webmasters are afraid these new audio ads are gonna scare away their visitors. I believe there are probably much more annoying ads out there already and those sites seem to be surviving fine. The one that annoys me the most are those full page ads by adbrite... along with some of their banners that sneak thru and resize my browser. They totally disrupt what I was doing whereas audio ads won't. I think most people won't be too "shell shocked" either when these start playing on sites they visit... And I don't think they will be anywhere as near annoying as those "OH MY GOD" and "CONGRATULATIONS" banners that we had to deal with before. What may be working for one website, may be totally wrong for another. They key --- as always --- is to find the right combination for your niche.
I think anything that forced you to watch or listen to an offer is intrusive and bad.... pop ups, pop unders, those full screen ads (adbrite) and even PPP... I personally don't want to be forced to see or hear anything I don't want to. Normals ads are fine as they are usually within content and tasteful (most sites). Anything else I consider just spammy.
I personally don't know how they are going to work. Have they got a system together so that they can monitor which users they should play the ads to. For example, it is no good playing ads to a visitor if they have their speakers turned down.
I think the PPP ads are annoying. I have my volume set to the lowest bar and I visited one page that had PPP on it. Of course, I didn't know at first and I was just waiting for the page to load and then suddenly something about TACO BELL KNOWS WHAT YOU CRAVE! It was kinda loud and made me jump. A lot of times I listen to music on my computer while I'm surfing, so this will be especially annoying for me. I don't want to listen to a damn ad screaming over my music. Next time I hear an ad I'm going to try and get my adblocker to block it.
