Think about how much money we would all loose if the charity organizations decided to buy computers and teach the common african man to build sites and use adsense. The web economy word turn totally sending enormous streams of money to Africa instead of the US and Europe. I think that would have been great. I am working on a plan presenting this for my governments developing departement doing just that. Please help me. How should I present it. What could be the main arguments for getting them to finance a project like this.
I doubt that it would be that easy. The problem goes a lot deeper than just needing to know how to use a computer. Many of the people there are illiterate. The charity organizations are already trying to teach them literacy and job skills. It is pretty difficult when they are having trouble convincing people to even treat their pond water for parasites. It is a struggle. I think it is great that people want to teach them job skills etc., but if they have been unsuccessful thus far I think that teaching them how to make adsense websites is not going to be so easy.
You are right catnabbit. And I should have been more specific. I am thinking of the people that can write and has been to school, but still not has a good job. You know, if you have ten people in Gambia earning only $500 each a month all together that will feed ten grand familys including remote family members, maybe all together 200 people. This is not easy, but when you have personal knowledge of a country it is very possible. I personally know it is possible in Gambia/Senegal/Tanzania/Zanzibar.
and what are you up to, login? you were saying we would LOSE money if organization teach other people and now you are proposing your government so that you could teach them?? i'm confused.
I agree with login: I would be happy to lose earnings from African competition. But I don't think that AdSense can solve Africa's problems by having a few of these kids get a $100 check because it's the other millions of people that need help. I think that more than adsense, they need action by governments /organizations, like the $100 laptop, cancel the debt, promote peace and education, provide opportunities for new businesses etc.
Opportunities for businesses that can actually hire many people, provide steady salary, health care, opportunities to learn more... From wikipedia: "more than 900,000,000 people (as of 2005)[2] in 61 territories, it accounts for about 14% of the world's human population", Here you can see some statistics about illiteracy. That means that people not only have not seen a computer, but couldn't care less about learning to read/write, when people just die all around from hunger, thirst, AIDS, tuberculosis, diseases considered extinct in USA/Europe and so on. Penicillin is really a luxury.
True, true. But I cannot provide that. I can only teach people what I know. Did you read what I said about writing by the way in my second post? Penicillin, aids medicine, can be bought from adsense money. The street of an adsense earner can be cleaned for adsense money to diminish the malaria. Adsense money can be used to send the adsense earners kids to schools. There are tons of examples on what adsense money can be used for. Remember, one person earning good money will provide a good life for a lot of people, a lot. We have to remember that one person is very often feeding a big family and the neighbours are benefiting from that to. Its not like Europe/Us where we keep the money inside the closest family. If you have been traveling in africa you know what I mean. The statistic is not about individuals. Individuals in africa are very willing to learn and work and not all are illiterate.
There would be too much click fraud. There are enough problems with Nigerian ebay cons as it is. I know where you coming from though,. Someone in Africa that earns $100 a month could live like a king.
Good idea. I think it is something that will have to have alot of funding to get off the ground though. Maybe Oprah could help?
If you want to make a diffrence, why don't you signup for the 1% for the planet program? Seriously, we gotta start thinking about the global warming. If we don't there won't be any africa.. neither any Europe og US.
A lot of funding yes. But for a small scale test project it would be enough with only $250.000 to $500.000. Thats why I need good arguments to present the idea.
I don't want to be negative but... $250.000 to teach HTML or website design or AdSense ad placements to people that cannot afford to clean their dishes to not waste their water? And then get gastroenteritis from it? Come on! I know that $100 can really change a lot of peoples lives there. Investing money to teach people how is already in progress with the $100 laptop and the idea is that people can have a source of free information to learn things and improve. Other money is being spent in having doctors that go there, work their butts off, risk their lives every day and get paid 500 euros/month. Other money is spent to make fresh water available to comunities that die of thirst and diseases due to the lack of it. Other money is spent to buy medicines and vaccines to treat malaria, tuberculosis etc. Babies are being abducted by warlords to be used as soldiers, sex slaves, human shields at the age of 8 (CNN). If you had $250.000 you would rather invest it to teach "100 ways to make money on adsense" in Africa?
Login, why dont you start an AdSense website run and built by volunteers with the earnings being donated to African charities. I would personally recommend donating the money to Aids Relief, seeing as how that is one of that countries largest concerns right now.
I also think it is more imprtnat to develop the rudimentary stuff in Africa first before we consider going really high-tech.
Thank you, it is a good idea and I have been considering it also. That would work and it would be great for many people, but I have put that idea on the side for now. I also think that a longer term way to help in Africa is to make jobs there and let the people in question produce, not only receive.
