Hi, Sorry to add more lines to this subject, but I've read this post today: http://blog.seoptimise.com/2007/09/google-pushing-us-legislation-in-paid.html and I would like to know what do you think about it.
more and more i see that "60 directories penalised" headline as a link bait used for biz-dir notice how out of all the directories listed in the post biz-dir has a live links post i think google is going to have a real problem enforcing legislation which is US specific across other countries anyway
As of yet, I think there is no ftc ruling on reporting paid links, if u read this article carefully, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/11/AR2006121101389.html This is a staff opinion and has not been categorized as a ruling yet. If it does become a ruling, then people or vendors in the United States will need to comply. Right now it is a debate and a staff opinion laid out with various data which has been collected. Also if your running a directory, and listing sites, I think that is not considered as a paid link. Read my post here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=470060 But if your going all out and buying links with fancy anchor texts, then just do the nofollow or javascript thing and you should be fine.
