When I first put my hands on Micro-niche-finder, I got extra excited, found some niche with ~25 competition, and jumped on it. Now, looking back - it was a mistake, and why did it happen? SoC of MicroNicheFinder is based on intersection of 3 parameters: "inurl" + "inanchor" + "intitle". While this means, that 25 pages are ultra-seo-optimized for that keyword, it does NOT mean, that there are only X (where X is MNF SOC estimated number) pages. That doesn't mean, that those 25 links are even close to 1st page. I fell into this trap, while searching for a keywords, but without any further checks. This was a while ago, and I became smarter since then (How do they say? Experience is a sum of your mistakes?) Well, the SOC was 25 (and if I enter the MNF formula into google, that is the result count , that I receive),and this is a good reason to make some further research, but in my case, that it's certainly not an available niche. Some more tests, that I run today are: *enter the keywords into google *check the first 10 results -backlink count for each -indexed pages count for each (this is an important factor too) -pr of a site. Not as meaningful, but gives a general insight about google's idea of a site For those 3 , I have implemented a quick script, and then made it public (backlinklab.com) While this gives out backlinks for the sites, which is a good indicator, I also check the competition manually. Big "no-no"s for me are: -Large amount of backlinks for first sites -PR >4 for the first sites -Large sites. If there is some large site on the way - this is no longer "micro niche" , as it requires a steady backlink building, and I would rather skip it Everything else that looks normal - I can go for it. I have learned some things by trial and error, and pretty much this is a "trust your eyes only, not automated machine" post. PS. If anybody is interested, here is how MNF determines the SOC number: http://www.google.com/search?q=inanchor:"your keywords"+inurl:"your keywords"+intitle:"your keywords"&hl=en&start=900&sa=N&filter=0&num=100 Code (markup): It goes to last page (100results per page, start at 9th page) to get the correct count number (the intersection result count is only correct on the last page). If this isn't the last page , it means, there are even more results, and it is over saturated niche anyway.
A well built site won't have a lot of links to each page. But its general weight is enough to describe an internal page as important. Of course, this is not a general rule, and you should check first -it might be some deeply nested, poorly optimized page - it is ok to compete with it.
