    • Net growth in listings: -33,278 (net growth in listings = total number of added listings - total number of removed listings)
    • Net growth in editors: -171 (Net growth in Editors= New editors+ Reinstated editors - Account inactivated )
    • Ratio of current editors to all editors joined =7,495/72,729= 10.3 % or in other word 90 percent have quit after joining in.

    Very impressive, indeed.

I am not expecting any sign of mercy from your side. The total of 72,729 editors, they were never active all together at the same time, you are well aware of that, aren't you?

Did I say that they were?
It is a ratio of how many recruited and how many are still in DMOZ. As I mentioned before of those 7000 still left, there is probably 500 who are active and the other simply login to keep their account with DMOZ. ;)

Well I was removed from being an editor for inactivity. I wonder how they determine that. My category was so small that I didnt get submissions or really had nothing to add. But ohh well. :)

According to other editors, all you needed to do to avoid that is log in and do something, anything, anywhere three times a year. You don't actually have to make a positive contribution - you just have to go into the office and breathe the smokey air for a few seconds and then leave again.

Someone should have explained that to you.

Don't feel too lonely. You were sharing the same experience with 6500 other editors like you that are only there to make the number of editors look good in stats. ;)

It was explained to me. I know I read it before I became an editor also.

But I did log in quite often to check but there wasnt anything really to do so I couldnt. Its not like I am upset though I really could care less. :)

Can't offer an official spin. Frankly, I don't care. The negative net growth of -171 editors, the ODP surely can't be proud of that. On the other hand, according to gworld, who claims to be an expert on ODP, there are only about 500 editors who are really active. So, as long as this number remains stable...:D

You have to make an edit within a certain time frame - (once every 4 months?).

Nothing to add/do? Sounds like you might not have been too interested in editing. :)

You can always ask for reinstatement if you're still interested....

You need to actually perform an edit, not just log in. I suppose they want you to find a listing to add if there aren't any pending reviews.

    It won't be. ;)

As soon as Google directory is established, I estimate between 70-90% of those 500 are going to leave. ;)

Its not like I wasnt interested. My category was for an online game that isnt going to be released for another 3-4 months now. So not a whole lot to edit. So I was an editor for maybe 1 year for that category on a subject that doesnt really exsist yet. :)

Is that the only category you are/were interested in editing in? I hear if you edit in your bookmarks they count as an edit.

I may do that to jump to another category but I am not sure which one yet. I dont want to go back to my old category though, too boring. :)

Your "as soon as" is a big IF. If so, just out of curiosity, altruistic as you are, do you already know whether you are going to stay or are you going to leave?;)

The number of editalls and above has actually risen by 2 since mid-March so it seems the core is stable. The resumption of the overall downward trend in overall editor number is disturbing however; I was hoping a corner had been turned in the last couple of months.

Or were removed. Or listed their own site and disappeared. Or found other things to do with their time. Selectively emailing the leavers to find out why and inviting a return might not be a bad idea. DMOZ really must get a grip of why people have left (and not make assumptions or listen to the assumptions of others). Of course approx 50,000 of those editor accounts no longer active were uncovered gworld aliases.

And they won't be missed. But I would put the figure at nearer 1 to 2%.
