    I would suggest finding a different Webhost or upgrading if possible. If that's not an option, you may want to consider reducing the amount of data used. For example, replace tables with html 4.0 layout. Reduce the number of linked words, reduce navigation. It may help with bandwidth issues, but I doubt it will make a great difference. Another option that may help is specifying certain directories to be avoided by Spiders. I would specify pages to avoid in the htaccess file. A forum is probably spidered frequently. Look over your logs, there may be spiders you want to cut-out entirely.

    Hope that helps. That's not fun seeing your site go down after spending time promoting growth :(.

    There are several ways to accomplish spider direction and indexing.
    <Meta tags>

    <meta name="robots" content="index,follow"> Index this page, don't follow links
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow"> Don't index this page, follow links
    <meta name="robots" content="index,nofollow"> Index, don't follow links
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow"> Don't index or follow links
    <meta name="googlebot" content="..., ..." /> Google identifies this with the same variables above.
    Not all spiders will follow these tags.

    I would suggest using an htaccess file. It gets complex depending on what you wish to do, and what directories you want to protect.
    Here's a good read regarding bots:

    http://www.mikestechblog.com/joomla...to-block-bad-bots-spiders-using-htaccess.html

    It depends on the spiders you wish to avoid and the ones hitting your website. A note, some spiders will attempt to work like an authentic browser viewing your site. However, they are seeking email, comment posts, submitting to your forum, etc..., so you may want to setup traps too. There is a lot on the internet regarding traps but the most common is a hidden link. Forums are often targeted heavily by spiders.

    What forum software are you using? I am sure the developers website is full of spider protection hacks.

    One more suggestion, before you leap-in editing your htaccess file (If you have one), your server may offer an htaccess editor from the admin panel. Look there and see what can be done.

    Nice Shakac, I always enjoy forum Websites, especially vbulletin! You have a lot of images (Images=Bandwidth). Are you sure it was the bandwidth that shut you down? I ask because your site is back up now. I would trim out all the javascript and floating bars. Maybe settle for something simple like add this. It may help eliminate all the data being sent and still allow social bookmarking.
