When you check your site backlinks from search engine, there is a delay. Generally speaking, your site backlinks will appear in search engine about 3-5 days later, however, inside the search engine which update are immediately.

For good using of Google Alerts, you can greatly improve the efficiency of SEO. There are few steps to monitor your site backlinks.

    1. Login your Google Alerts account and create a subject to monitor.

    2. Login your e-mail and confirm the verification.

    3. Just read you mail. Google alerts will send the notification messages when new backlinks added.

Google Alerts is a great tool (also free to use). Here's another way to take advantage of this tool: Keep an eye on your favourite topics and find forum posts or articles related to your topic, then access these and leave a comment. Good for backlinks and good for business.

    1. First you need to sign up for an account: http://www.google.com/alerts (its free)
    2. Create a Google Account to manage your alerts (=gmail)
    3. Set up alerts - keywords, negative phrases, track products or you can even track yourself (your name)
    4. A bit more advanced: Set up an alert that focuses on the keywords you want to rank for. Such as: ["real estate marketing"].
    5. Additional use: Spy on your competition. Try some alerts like this: [link:www(dot)mycompetition(dot)com]
    5. The alerts will be sent to your gmail
