I provide hosting at the moment through a reseller account for my web design clients. I was just wondering if there is still an opening in the hosting market for a new host? It seems like all the big boys offering everything for $6 a month have taken over the market. Do you think its worth spending the money to open a new host and compete. Although I don't think I could offer unlimited everything for $6 :/ Whats the score ?
Hosting is going to be tough, but still there is huge money in it. If you are starting out with a reseller account, its good. I would sugest you to focus on getting clients through reference first, you can cosider doing seo and promote your hosting services for your area first. Then slowly you can expand. I must say one thing, focus highly on support and you will surely make a fortune in hosting...
Yes,it worth it. Coz you don't compete in the same field with big player. Instead you try only to target specified niche such as worpress host.
24X7 support is really a big issue. If you are keen on providing that you must hire few staff. say minimum 3. there is no shortcut to 24X7 support. You can even outsource that but you will have to pay some money for that
Niche Specific hosting is picking up these days. If you target right prospect, there is still a lot of money to be made in web hosting industry.
Yes, there is money in hosting. Dedication and patience are the key words in hosting. It can be pretty hard at the beginning, but try advertising around local businesses, ask them if they are happy with their hosting and are they paying the right price.
The sort answer is yes but think about offering more services or services that others in your area don't offer.
[QUOTE Although I don't think I could offer unlimited everything for $6 :/ Then don't feel you have to try, many people are prepared to spend a little more for first class service and support so focus on providing this and word will get around.
I have never considered working with the hosting niche but one thing I can say that support has always been a key issue of mine when dealing with hosting. I have yet to find many that have anything in the way of good support. Most are idiots that read from a script they are given. Their help section contains several lines of gibberish with a link for more information pointing back to the page that you just came from. Supply good support as mentioned. That is worth a lot to many.
its so crowded now that money can be limited i would say find a particualr group u know u can sell to
If you offer good Hosting with fast speeds, unlimited or high storage, easy to access for the Site owner, etc.. It could be great money
find your niche, i sell unlimited bandwidth railo hosting (and am doing very well) http://jassoft.co.uk Tip: you can sell unlimited even if your account doesnt currently have unlimited bandwidth etc You can grow with ur clients
I think that you should go ahead and try hosting business. Develop a website and promote it in web properly.
Just to add to my first post on this thread; It's not easy becoming a succesfull host. The start will suck and so will the rest of your hosting business if you don't put in the time and effort that's needed for this kind of businesses. If you're just starting in this business I'd start with web development. More money on the start. Just design some sites for your portofolio. JD
Use resellerpanel. You can setup your own prices and they only allow customers to buy pay for min 12 months. That means you can make up to $480 per sale/plan (your part). The idea is to target small businesses or commercial websites (stores and so on) instead of people that know that you can buy a shared $5 account all over the place.
There is always room for more good hosts. If you dedicated yourself to providing good quality support, then you won't have any problems getting your business to grow. 24/7 support is a nice to have but you can get around that easily by offering better support than the big guys. If your helpful people won't mind waiting 24 hours for a response. By going the extra mile, your starting customer base will do all the selling for you. Soon you will be hosting friends of friends without doing much advertising. Reseller hosting accounts are perfect for just starting out. This will help keep your costs low and doesn't require you to manage servers. Resellers allow you to fully dedicated yourself to finding new clients and allow you to focus on support requests. Good luck with your new hosting business.
This won't always work. By offering "unlimited" hosting for cheap your going to attract all the wrong clients. Nothing worse then dealing with spammers or people trying to run file sharing sites. Having the right package for the right price will attract small businesses and people hosting hobby sites.
