"Money Blogs" and affiliate advertising

I look at blogs about making money from time to time, and they advertise a lot of ad networks (along with their affiliate id). This means that they get a lot of revenue (if they are popular) from affilates. This makes me wonder, how much do they actually make from their site, and how much from affiliates.

For example, John Chow reports an income of over $10000, but he's one of the most known money bloggers out there, and he probably referred over 1000 people to the different ad networks. Now how much do you think of that $10000 was made from PPC ads on his site, and how much from ones on other sites? Do you think it's possible to reach that kind of income without affiliate deals?

I think most people can make more money with affiliate links than ad networks.

Whoops, I guess I never noticed the "Affiliate Sales" section. In August he made $7000 (out of $17000) from affiliate deals. That's almost half.

Well im a total affiliate n00b currently, thats why im hear trying to learn but this is how ive looked at it...

You work your ass off with a site, to get a .25 cent click...

But if you have a genuine decent product that your advertising, and you get a decent percentage... lets say you get $10 from each sale.

If you did the work on the site etc you would only need to be selling it to 5 people a day to start making a tidy proffit...

Now when you consider the internet is .. the whole word potentially can acess your site, if you can just promote that site correctly then .. the probability of getting those 5 sales a day or .. whatever your personal target is should be relativly easy just due to the sheer amount of people on the internet.

    edit:

What im starting to think is that , PPC is alot better for those who have a already exisitng site and want to earn cash from it (yeah you can earn alot but its not set in stone) i think if your willing to put in the hard yard affiliate sales will probably yeild quicker revenue, and higher payout

But you have to be willing to put in the hard yards

I mean i look it at the number crunch...

Entire Planet of potential visitors = Very good chance of sale with correct website/product and publicity

    Correct me if im wrong

He doesn't own techcruch - he owns techzone!

You'll also note that he doesn't use PPC advertising any more. All the ads are private sales or promoting affiliate deals.

I have my own "make money online" blog and easily make over $1000 just from paid advertising every month. Check it out here.
