Monetizing Forum Sites Like DigitalPoint

I got a question. How do forums like this earn money? PPC? affiliate programs? dont see them here..

Adsense. DP earns from adsense.

Yes, only adsense as i know.

 

I think SP earns a lot more then DP does. if DP would somewhat do what SP does,
then I suppose they would make a killing, on DP, you basicly post for free, but
on SP you surely have to pay for it...and they do make money. I do not think DP
has there ads placed that good to begin with, It is always one up in the top/right
corner, easy to ignore...DP may make some, but no where what SP makes for sure.

 

Hehe, I can easily see how we might be throwing rocks at our own garden.

Some random monetization ideas:
- organizing the trade forum subsection to require, for example, even a minimal payment to post an auction (or a subscription of some sorts) to weed the crap out.
- creating a product for targeted groups within DP.

 

if your forum niche is good, then you can earn good money with adsense. don't start webmaster, games, business, movies, forums. try something different.

 

thank you! i really dont know how adsense works.. but my buddy is asking me to run one for their clan just a very simple one thought id make few bucks out of it.

 

To make any decent amount of money with Adsense you have to have a super high traffic on your site, otherwise it's not worth your time...

 

allright.. local community? hundred members is my target.. will that generate enough? there's a huge local gaming community here that is waiting to be tapped..

but not thousands..(i must be dreaming..)

So is it feasable? less than 500 members.. not really large traffic but im think of running a contest..

 

I wonder who clicks that when only people with adblocks sit here

 

To monetize forums the best I have found is CPM advertisement on the top, adsense in-between posts, and an adsense banner at the complete bottom of the page. You will have a very low CTR on forums so you will need the CPM to help stabilize earnings in times where no one at all is clicking.

I do believe webmaster forums are difficult to make money from - there is so much competition.
I have recently started one, but that is really just to try and prove a point to another member here, and make mine bigger than his!!
