monetizing a love poem website

    Hi all,

I have a love poem website with adsense currently on it and one CJ banner for perfectmatch.com.

The site has 280 visitors a day solid for the last 6 months. It's PR2.

The CTR is very, very low for adsense and the site has only made $78.00 in all of 2006. The conversion rate is non-existent for CJ.

Any ideas how to better profit from this site? I do not want to use any advertising that is "adult" in nature.

    Thanks,
    tasty

Who writes the poems? If you do, you could offer custom written poems to your users, for a fee of course, or alternatively make the best poems only available to paying members. May not be for you, but there's some ideas.

Why not set up a yearly subscription for men or women to schedule love poems to be sent to their loved one during certain times of year. Birthday, Anniversary, Valentines, Christmas, or Just Because.

This may sound bad, but I'm a busy guy...I think it would pretty nice to schedule a few random days during the quarter where a poem was auto sent for me to my wife. It would be nice if it sent me an email like a couple days before, with a reminder that it was going out soon. Then asked if I wanted to add a special message like "Dinner tonight?" or maybe choose a different poem based on my wife's mood.

It would be cool if you could work something out with FTD or some other flower service like that, if you couldn't work out a monetary deal, you may be able to work out a deal where you get traffic from their websites.

You could do a lot with this in the realm of email marketing once you set up a subscription service. I think it is actually a pretty good idea.

I'd probably pay $9.99 a year for it.

why not try postcard/poem marketing? I know of someone here at the office who writes and designs online mood cards and engages in postcard marketing. Im not so sure as to how successful she is but I think shes doing great ^__^

I would try a new affiliate - maybe friendfinder.com or amateurmatch.com. Regarding the low AdSense CTR, have you played with different ad variations and placements? And I like the idea of offering a custom love poem service. Get that in for Valentine's day, and with some SEO, you might be tapping a whole new market.

Or maybe passion.com, or move into other products like chocolates and flowers (plenty of affiliate programs for those two products.)

That sounds like a really good idea for its own business.

Try Amazon. It is easy to use and they have large choice of products. Anyway, if you promote books which are 20$ a piece, you cannot get much of commission (0.04 * 20 = 0.8$ this could go to 1.2$ later). In case of 1-2 orders daily it could be 300-400$ yearly. And if you don't use Omikaze links you can run AdSense with Amazon which is great :).

    Thanks all for your thoughts.

I run a separate love poem site that sends messages as described above, it gets traffic too, but perhaps poetry websites are just not as good at converting traffic to $$. When I go to other poetry sites they are often filled with pop-ups, pop-unders, flashing banner ads etc. and I do want to avoid that too.

Any more thoughts on ppc type stuff I could try that might work better than adsense or CJ?

    Thanks,
    tasty
