Many times I read on DP people asking how to monetize their sites, here's my advice: Monetize your web-site by going cross-platform and offer people services via land-phone/mobile-phone to gain subscribers. You can reach people via phone/SMS with your web-site services when they are offline, they can even pay you for subscription via mobile-phone in some countries. In my case, I started a sports site with match stats/data and such but I had little use of visitors looking at them for free, PPC ads income can be low, as well CTR, and I can't bother people with placing the same bookmaker affiliate ad on every single page. I figured out to offer $10 subscription per month (plus costs of SMS/phone calls) to send them stats/data (such as current temperature in the city where the game is played, who is injured, etc) to their mobile phones/land phones via SMS or phone call, this is very useful to people as many times they can't get online and they need info in a second so they can send me a question via SMS or call and I reply with the info they need. Plus additional subscriptions can be given away for extra services such as to pay in the bets to people who can't pay in themselves at the given time, they upload funds to me and whenever they call I can pay in a betting ticket for them with their money when they are stuck at work, out of office, etc. If you have a site about finances/investments people can subscribe to you to let them know via land phone/mobile phone with call/SMS when some stocks suddenly go up or down, if you have an auction sites or domain sale/resale web-site to let them know about new happenings as soon as they happen. If you offer $10, 20 or 30 subscriptions per month, and have 40, 100 or 1000 subscribers you have a solid income. Check your local phone company for flat-rate SMS/Phone call rates per month possibilities to cut on these costs. You can make partnership with people in different countries so you are not limited to domestic subscribers wih expensive international phone call/SMS costs. Hope this helps to someone.
