Monetization suggestions for site?

    Hi Guys,

I have just made a small site that tells the user their IP. It's got a great domain. I've also put about 10 articles on anonymity etc.

I know there's not too much earning potential for such a small site, but what monetization options should I use?

    Selling spyware clearers through clickbank?
    Adsense?
    Other ads?
    Mini malls?

OK so since no-one really has taken a good look, I'll think it through myself:

    - Adsense: it's free content and only a few articles, so I don't think so.
    - Other Ads: dunno. Anyone got suggestions?
    - mini malls: they aren't really going searching for products! low ctr I think
    - Selling spyware cleaners through clickbank: now maybe that could work.

    Somebody... ? Anybody...?

Well u need to think big, hvn a small site wont do any good, create more content pages related to your site theme, and optimize your site so you will get more and more traffic

Adsense is only good when you dont know what the content of the site is going to be (ie it is open topics user contributed) otherwise you can get much better return rates using targeted advertising.

Other ads would be the better route be it spyware or other... you obviously need to work out what sort of people are going to be using the site and therefore what sort of products or services they will be interested in. Given it is supposed to be for amonimity the initial reaction says that affiliate links/ adverts for proxy sites would be a sensible consideration.

@guru - but aren't there some sites with a really good url that only have a few pages, but get tonnes of traffic?

@alonski - it's not launched yet. I wanted to figure out my strategy before launch (less updating later). Is this the best approach?

@astaroth - I've never heard or or though of that, thats really well said!

    Thanks, sly. TLA looks good.

I might also have a page selling spyware cleaner through clickbank - but dunno if this would work?

Also, found this post on adsense and simple sites. Maybe I SHOULD still use Adsense!
    http://www.carlocab.com/a-hardcore-advice-on-making-money-with-adsense/

(If you don't want to click, it says that simple sites earn more with adsense because there are less things to click.)

I wouldn't wait that long with building that site, if you're figuring everything out before you get started you'll lose valuable time. If it takes you another week (or two) to get started you've lost that much time.

If you had started right away you could have had a great site after that week or two and even receiving traffic and perhaps even some moolah.

If it's just a site that tells people their Ip-adress I'd go for advertising, no adsense though.
Just increase the content (articles) and submit those same articles (a little different) to article directories.

Do some deeplinking, don't link every submitted article to your homepage.
Instead link the article about changing ip-adresses to the one on your site about changing ip)adresses.

Just make the articles on your site longer and more valuable. That way you've got links from related sites and increased traffic.

Then you can sell advertising on your site, how much will depend on the amount of traffic you're getting, but even if it's just 20 a month. If you can find 10 advertisers (or if they find you) you've got a site earning you 200 a month. Not much but can pay a few bills.

It's a free service right? Then use freebiesites, submit your site to freebie sites and you'll get a steady amount of traffic that way as well.

And don't forget to get a free blog at blogger dot com, submit your blog to as many rss feed sites you can find and get a squidoo lens as well. All of that just to promote your site.

    hope that's helpful,
