Hi guys, just thought I'd share a rookie adsense learning experience with you guys.. I had a googlepack referral button on my spendamillion.com blog since launch with zero takers. I just thought "no one wants to download this google earth milarkey". Then I played a little experiment: I wrote a page on another blog, with pics showing exactly how cool google earth was, and put a snapshot of my house on it with a super-imposed arrow and said "you too can zoom in on YOUR house". Appealing to their emotions, got me a few takers.. Then..... I have a page on spendamillion.com where people can suggest what dream items they'd like to see on the website. They have to be a signed-up user to do this, and it has a "thank you for your suggestion" follow-thru page. On this follow-thru page I placed a revised, personal snapshot from google and reason why they should sign-up, see pic: This has a dramatic click-thru rate, and vastly improved action-to-dollar rate. I believe it is because THEY ARE ENGAGING WITH MY SITE/COMMUNITY, and therefore WANT to listen to what I have to say and recommend. So this got me thinking for you guys: If people are sign-up members of your site/forum and they engage with you, are you monetising that particular post-communication point? If you run a forum, are you monetising, the "thank you for your post" page? Possibly with personal, engaging/witty recommendations for related products? Would be interesting to hear your thoughts.
glad you guys like the idea. Thanks for feedback I was thinking if I had a forum, I'd have a "thank-you for your post marketing message manager". This tool would allow me to write several marketing messages, and they would be rotated randomly on the thank you for post page. So that people don't get bored of the same message. Maybe someone has written such a tool for phpbb (other forums), may be not. Am sure it could be developed pretty cheapily.
Never thought of trying to monetize a 'post thank you' page on my forums...but i might have to look into it... though i fear the fact that most forum goers wouldn't want to see advertising on a 'thank you' page...i'll see what i can do thanks for the tip
I guess the secret is to do it without annoying people, that's why the personal recommendation tactic in this location, might work well..
Excellent idea, green for you! Integrating referrals with my content is what made made our site an Adsense Referral Success Story (with Firefox in my case) ... With an idea like this you could be the next! i'm going to give this a try..
