Moment of silence for the 29 NZ miners killed in PRC mine accident

Flags all over NZ were flying at half mast today to mourn the loss of the 29 New Zealand miners trapped in the Pike River Coal accident on Friday, and were confirmed dead yesterday after a second unsurvivable explosion in the mine. May God be with the miners family and friends as they endure this awful time.

And now, a moment of silence...

It's a horrible tragedy, our condolences to the family and friends of the miners in New Zealand.

I was so sad yesterday after seeing the news headlines that they'd all died.

There was some Australians and English in there too; it was sad enough anyway but it made it a little more real for me.

I hope their families are coping OK, particularly this close to Christmas. :(

They have said they will work hard to retrieve the bodies but as there have been more explosions since I don't know how they will go.

29 families are not going to have happy Christmases this year - it was one kid's first day on the job, too </3

Sorry for the loss of these hard working people.... It's a shame that at this time of the year their families will be coping with the loss of loved ones. My heart goes out to them.

    RIP -

Two of the deceased were about to be married soon. And one of the dead man's family were also reeling from having their home lost in the Canterbury quake as well, so it definitely will be a hard time for them. It is truly a very tragic thing for Southland.

It is touching though the sympathy from other nations, especially Australia, who flew their harbour bridge flag at half mast as well. Thanks guys!

I found this online, just though I would share it:

The church bells rang 29 times, so we knew it was final and the end of the line.
Now 29 miners are at heaven's gate,
With coal silt dirty faces asking, "Is it 2 late?".
When God replies with half a grin
"No my children come on in!"
They place their mining lights gently on heaven's floor
When God say's "Job well done, leave your work boots at the door"
