I think it's great that you have two wonderful parents and your thoughts here are very sweet.

My father is an ass, but I agree about my mother - she is a fantastic woman who has always been very supportive and understanding, even when she didn't really like what I was doing or worried about it. :)

Never knew my parents and my adopted parents were abusers. went back into foster care as a teen and have been an independent ever since graduation. I admire those who recognize their good parents and abhor those who take advantage of their good parents. it's not easy being a parent, but there are just some lines that should never be crossed as a parent either. kudos to those who stay on the right track.

Suren, I have accepted your friend request :)

hopehunter and biger007 - indeed, some people should never be parents. I was lucky enough that despite having one terrible parent I also have a great Mum.

I was ill recently with the flu very badly and she sent me shopping online with juice, food, etc. as well as some cigarettes - something that she knew would make me feel better. (They're bad for me but I was sick and sad so she sent them anyways, I think that was very sweet of her.)

I don't know what this thread has to do with P & R, but at least it reminded me to call my father...:)

I was wondering who would be the first to twist this thread into a proper political rant. I'm wondering how we can tie Palestine, Afghanistan, or Obama care in somehow.

IMO no parents intentionally destroy their child's childhood. I don't know what your parents did to you but I know one thing, all parents want their children to be successful in life and nobody will ever love you more than your parents.
All parents who experienced raising a newborn baby know that we can not repay our parents what they have done for us. Best we can do is to take care of them when they are old and try our best to fulfill all their wishes and needs.

Where'd you learn that? Sunday school?

Wake up, there's a world going on outside your own home and evidently luck-filled childhood. Not every parent wants their children to be successful because not every parent is motivated to have kids for the same reasons you'd think. If parents were really motivated for the right reasons, there would be very few parents. Some are too stupid to see the damage they cause by having kids without being responsible enough to raise them: ignorance is definitely not bliss, it is the ultimate cause of human suffering.
