There was a study a few years ago that showed how loading children with ethnic names lowers their lifetime earning potential. It seems reasonable to believe that the same pattern would hold true for obviously religious names. Name your daughter Laquisha or your son Mohammad and you handicap their economic performance for their entire lives.

I probably could have worded that a tad better, racism really gets under my skin - but yeah, the racism stuff is a joke. We have SO many Indians here who are part of the community just like anyone else. With so many here, of course there will be fights from time to time - but there are less Indians attacked here than Australians, and I mean that in terms of percentage of each population in Australia, not just total number of attacks.

I also wonder why he compared Australians to Hitler; Hitler's main goal was to annihilate the Jews and in Australia (I didn't know this until recently) we actually have one of the highest Jewish populations outside of Israel.

 

You're mixing up two completely different statistics. Nowhere in that article is it mentioned that 999 out of 1000 Indians are spammers (that is what you implied when you said: "1/1000 Indians is a decent person the rests are spammers or idiots"). I know you were making up your own statistic by generalizing, but by throwing in a newspaper report to prove your non-existent point made it look even more stupid than it is.

Howard was more ignorant a stupid than bad, IMHO. Honestly, at this stage, I don't even know who the hell I want running our country. Labor, who should represent the working class, have rolled out so many new taxes it's insane. I'm financially responsible for myself and my partner and under Labor the cost of supporting him has gone up by around 30% more each year than it did with a Liberal government.

I disliked his attitude entirely. He was a proud right-winger that sold up everything and spent on nothing. I waited 4 years for a category 2 surgery (says within 2 months ideal) that eventually took 2 months of Labor in power to get. I think he cared more about politics than the people and had a heartless attitude to everything he did. I'd say bad but not inherently evil because he did it thinking it was right for where he wanted the country to be.

I think Gillard won't get too far because of how she got into her current position, which was obviously a center-right-wing takeover. I agree with Howard saying Rudd would have won, if he was on offer. Anyone but Abbott, surely he's on the nose.

The Libs want to sell everything which gives us no control over prices, or we come beholden to shareholders, which is where I think we're at now. Labor's now right-wingish in many of its policies. Greens seem to be the most honest party to me. Brown's always stuck with his agenda, isn't beholden to company and is the longest serving member of parliament because he wants to make a difference.

I think prices are going up and will continue to go up no matter whose in power because everyone thinks they must put prices up in order to achieve a sustainable way of life. Shareholders love it, and business owners, because they're making huge profits. By making things dearer, less and less people buy shit and use even less etc so the Greenies like that idea of that as well as Labor & Libs. I think it will definitely bring around new inventions too. Did you see the new French 'Air' car on SBS news tonight by any chance?
