MODS are good only if are approved and offered directly by the original Script Creator and are called MODULES. If they are neither approved nor offered (for free or for a fee) through the original script seller there must be a good reason . Dont waste your money with Unauthorized MODs. You will become a slave of the mod creator and will not be able to upgrade your script anymore. NEVER PAY ANYTHING IF YOU DON?T GET THE CODE. IF THEY OFFER TO INSTALL THE MOD FOR YOU: THANK THEM BUT ASK FOR A COPY OF THE CODE ( don't pay anything if they will not give it to You) - there might be execeptions naturally -
What is an Unauthorized Mod? do you mean the ones that are not built into the original script already, and anything thats made by an outside person?
I think what he is trying to say is that you should only use mods which have been given David's seal of approval (the owner of phpLD). So David, you up for some extra work testing and approving everyone's mods?
Ummm.... isn't this the 3rd thread you've started in 4 days attacking mods? Why not just say - don't use any php script unless the php script has been officially approved by the creators of php. If the php script is not approved by the creators of php (for free or for a fee) there must be a good reason. Don't waste your money with unauthorized php scripts. You will become a slave of the script creator and will not be able to upgrade your script anymore.
Com'on ... What's the point to ask for a "permission" from the Original Script Creator (David) to use a MOD ??? Well, Let's take an example... I like (infect I love) the Daily Listing mod by Pete. ... *see Here And I believe it will add value to my directory and will be a source of extra cash which I can spent back and improve my Directory as a whole. So what you are saying is, I should go to David and ask that if it's OK to use it to my Best Web Directory ?? Although, I know David will not be having any issue but why would I be asking him ??? Well, you are right as it will be a bit of hassle to upgrade/update to the new version. But that is the price that you pay to add value to your Directory. If you can't even do that, well .... you can always "earn" cash running Google ads on static pages made using MS Front Page.
I disagree on this one. Some 3rd party mods are better and have a great support, especially paid mods. There always difficulties when upgrading script, mods need to be re-applied to the recent version. For free mods, you might need to do it on your own in this regards. But for paid mods, I think this step will be easier since there is "official support" for the mods. You do not need to worry about compatibility, since paid mods owner for sure will make their mods compatible with the recent version of the script.
Sebans I think you need to worry about yourself and not what we are doing to our sites in fact I know for a fact that any script you use is only improved by mods and that most makers of the script endorse them for instance David of phpld always tells people who the makers of the mods are and how to get them and all the mod makers stand behind their mods
Let the directory script owner work for the improvement of the script.. And let the Big brains work on ADD-ONs - aka MODs..
So what you're basically saying we should only use mods by an0n, dargre, SilkySmooth and VSDan and no one else?
I don't even think he is saying that as As this would disqualify some of those mods. Either way, I think the entire "approved mods" is bogus, but the OP might really have been trying to warn folks, because you never know if a mod will mess up your directory etc. Perhaps instead of the term "approved" it should be a "credible" or "established" mod. I am sorry to say this, but I attacked the idiot that removed the links from my template calling him the biggest retard now I really think you are the person that deserves this reward "The Biggest TURD in the WORDL"
