Mods/Admins, I have 2 questions. No complaints

Hello, my name is Ian and I am new to the forum, so far I love the place. I have 2 quick questions. No complaints.

    1. I tried to post a thread earlier today about an educational program Microsoft is running for students, I received a warning for posting the link. Just wondering why? Is it because I don't have enough posts or because a mod thought I was trying to encourage illegal software downloading? (which I most certainly am against)

This is something right from Microsoft, not an unaffiliated site, and I would really like to be able to share my knowledge of that resource so other students can use it! But not if its against the rules. Its all legal. Just wondering why I received the warning!

    2. I also posted a thread in the section for buying and selling domains (I think?) and received a warning that it was in the wrong place. The thread was to help me determine the value of a website. I had thougt that forum was the right place for it. Since I ve been informed it was not, just wanted to know where it should have been posted, so I don't make the same mistake twice!

Thank you for your time !

    Sincerely with warm regards,
    Ian

I'm not a mod, just a newbie but anyway this is what I think.

    From the FAQ/Rules:
It's okay to promote your own things, but wait until you have contributed something useful (posts-wise) to the forum.

I started a thread about this a few days ago:

Do you mean something as far as intellectual-posts wise or numbers posts wise... cause as far as adding anything intellectual to the forum, I am a SUPREME noob and Im only really here to ask questions , not answer others since I dont have the knowledgebase yet and dont want to dispel false information.

I guess I didnt have enough posts to post in the buy/sell/trade forum? oh well, I might have overlooked that part of the rules (my bad)... This forum is like sensory overload with so much info, so I might have just missed that part....

    Thanks for the reply!

Since you're a new member and you posted a link with a short message, that infraction may have been accidental. Don't think too much and just let it expire.

General Chat isn't the place to offer free downloads, and i don't think we allow software downloads due to the risk to users computers. as you say your a Supreme Noob, you are. i suggest you read the FAQ/Rules and forum stickies where you plan on participating. you'll thank me later. :D

next time you want a price tag on a domain, try Appraisals.

Ok.. well my bad, sorry about all that... I just wanted to share that microsoft thing with everyone who could use it (it is from one of their official sites) but I understand the whole dont-break-peoples 'puters thing. No ill-intentions meant...

    and WOOPS...

I actually did post the "appraisal thread" in that forum...I think its the 12th or 13th topic down, sorry I mis-stated that it was in the general forum.

I think thats why I was so confused as to why I had recieved a warning about that post. I dont know where else to have put it other than there, only think I can think of is maybe because I posted a link in that thread to the site in question (and I didnt realize you needed 25 posts to post links)....

.... was that what it was?

and thanks for the FAQ link, Im going to read over them before posting much more so that I dont offend/break any rules!

    Thanks! :)
