I've seen something similar done, which used CSS as well. If i can remember it was a photo-realistic pencil end.

This is pretty cool i have to say. One of the best G spin offs I've seen for a while!

 

I was playing around with this earlier - my guess is they are using the #1 entry as returned by Google Images and then they are doing a grab from the original source ... or at least I'm seeing referral traffic in my web server logs - for instance, here's one for me (a bit cute/sappy) ... and here's one of my friend Jon - much more interesting and from my water skiing page

 

I very much enjoy that as well.

It seems to make a picture out of text and uses the first result in Google images as it's stencil, or inspiration so to speak.
