In just a few weeks my forum has crossed 500 topics milestone just 2 days back. we have 93 members with over 3500 posts. We are averaging of about 100-200 posts on daily basis. A few of members asked me to choose them as moderators if I need. I also think it's just about the time to select a few of them as moderators of different sections. Now the question comes up. Who should I select as a moderator? What would be best for a rapidly growing forum to choose for daily moderation? The one who can spend more time on the board with less quality posts? or the one who spend less time but make quality posts? Thanks for your time. Chodhry
"Who can spend more time with less quality posts." I voted that, but it depends on what kind of problems you face. If it's growth problems but not much spam then go for the other option.
Quality posts are key, as your staff's main job is moderation, not activity. Furthermore, mods should set a good example. So by making quality posts, it shows the members how they ought to be posting.
But what's a mod if there rarly there!!! You don't make some one a mod to post, but to get rid of spam, ban IamRed, and so on.
"Who can spend more time with less quality posts." The job of a moderator is not to make quality posts (although this should be a given)....the job of a moderator is to moderate the forums. To do this to the best degree, that moderator must be in the forums often...the more time the moderator can spend moderating, the better. I don't want a moderator who comes in for 20 minutes each day to make 2 quality posts. I want a moderator who can browse my forums 3 hours every day.
Thanks guys for your opinions. May be I could write down some rules to become a mod on the forum and have it there to make at least this number of quality posts daily or weekly and have to stay on board for a minimum of 1 hr daily. Do these rules sound too hard to be imposed? Why do you think so?
Yes. When was the last time you saw one of the mods here make a quality post!!!! There job is to moderate. It's not a posting job!!! Only if you pay them should they be *required* to do anything other than mod!!!! I don't think they'll enjoy there stay on your boards if there forced to post quality posts!
hmmm, I agree. I was thinking to give them some forum currency in exchange of their posts but I dont think money can solve the problem. People post when ever they feel like posting and if they are not feeling like that they would not make quality posts but just posting to reach the reqiured number.
Ack!!! How did you find this thread!!!! The biggest/highest quality post you ever made was....back when you posted about singing the Seseme Street song at work and your co-workers hurd you sing and thought you were nuts!!! While I always make huge, high quality posts!! Case in point: My 5000th post special!!!!
Howdy! Oh... these either/or polls make me bonkers! I would like a mod who can do both! He/She writes good posts and is around to monitor the posts of others! Lyte
I guess you need to be clear about whether you are after developer + admin moderator key contributor They are different jobs and sometimes people can do both but normally they're very different roles. Ofcourse once your forum is up and running you won't need the key contributor because the members will perform that role. PC101 - I've added your forum to my computer forums directory.
