Do you use the default settings when it comes to your moderators or do you set the permissions individually?

Can a rogue moderator completely screw up your forum?

Does the default settings allow that much freedom?

I'm in the process of selecting a few moderators at my forum and I wanted to see how experienced forum owners handled moderator permissions.

Thanks for your tips and suggestions!

    :D

On my vBulletin Forum, I have the default moderator permissions set up.
except that they can't 'Physically Delete' posts. (only Soft Delete allowed).

Sorry, I am not at home so do not have access to my ACP, so my answers are rather vague.

    DTHBAH2006 asks:
Do you use the default settings when it comes to your moderators or do you set the permissions individually?

I changed the default settings to how I liked them...

Can a rogue moderator completely screw up your forum?

YES! Make sure the option to hard delete is turned off. Only SOFT deletes should be allowed. I do not remember where this option is set at, but I think it's in vb options. I had a mod account get hacked and he deleted four bords before I noticed what happened... luckily he could only soft delete them.

Does the default settings allow that much freedom?
I don't remember. Go though the options and look at them individually. This includes the options in vb options, and all the forum/post sections of the ACP.

Trust is a HUGE option... make sure you trust people.

Thanks for your tips and suggestions!
no problem :D Got any other questions?

I use the default settings for moderators, however my forum is phpBB so there are differences.
A rogue moderator can damage your forum, so you should only choose people you trust.

And still watch them like a hawk ;)

A disgruntled mod can be a nightmare...

A member doing account suicide posts porn, a mod doing it bans people and deletes/edits posts.

Backups are ALWAYS a good idea!

That's good advice. I am active on my forum and I do watch my moderators. I also back up the forum every so often.

Not directly related, though in the case of a disgruntled mod (or fellow admin) onsite AND offsite backups are best. I do daily backups to the server and monthly backups to my computer.

if you were still wondering, i have all the default settings on. The only person that can hard delete is the admin at my forum.
