Mod_rewrite

I need a mod rewrite for my directory,http://www.linkdirec.com but i am unsure on how to do this.right now the file is htaccess.txt.i read i need to change to .htaccess but when i do that,i stii get that long url.Shouldnt that change it?

 

You must also change the links in the directory source code, the .htaccess only tells the server to transparently convert links to the old format, if such link appears.

 

And check if You have the mod_rewrite apache module loaded.
