mod_rewrite and seo?

    how important is it to have the ability to mod_rewrite and have freindly urls

    if it is i need a good host in the uk .

    I'd say it's important if you are using any user generated content.

    An example would be a search engine, generating pages out of user search results with mod rewrite automatically.

    But this will only help if at the same time the links to these auto generated mod_rewrite pages will be collected on a kind of sitemap page that can be indexed with the search engines.

    What is your intention? What kind of site(s) are you going to build in regards to the mod-rewrite function?

    im trying to create a directory using indexu, i have the option not to rewrite the urls but woundered if its important

    If all you're going to be dealing with are static HTML files that won't be changed or moved around, then you won't need it. But if you're going to be adding a blog, forum, using any kind of dynamic script, or need to move a Web page from one location to another without losing its rankings and PageRank, then you will need it.
