well.. i think an easy way to start is to develop a mobile site and then join a mobile ad networks as a publisher to start displaying their ads...

but be careful when choosing ad networks you're gonna use... many people had bad experiences using a certain ad networks, but it doesnt have to be like that...
what needs to be kept in mind is, remember the ad network's Terms of Service, make sure you read through it and follow it... if you play by the book, they wont be able to banned you...

The implementing and control of a mix of business activities intended to bring together buyers and sellers for the mutually advantageous exchange or transfer of products where the primary point of contact with the consumer is via their mobile device.

aptohosting, you are correct, people hate spam, that is why the mobile sms industry is highly regulated NOT to allow it. If anyone reaches out to you on your phone with a sales message and you have not opted-in to receive their sales messages, they are in clear violation of the law and probably should be reported. Any reputable sms provider will not allow their clients to send un-solicited messages.

    I agree and disagree.
I agree with the idea that it can be a means of additional promotion as using sms (and it's constituent applications) can provide top of mind awareness when/where appropriate.
However, I disagree when you say it is "not as basic strategy." The reason I disagree is that within any marketing plan for any company or project I believe there has to be around 7 marketing strategies in place at once. And one of those seven strategies is sms.

Can you further explain your statement: "can be used only as additional means of promotion, not as basic strategy" please.

Well... I would say that SMS Marketing is a grouping within the Mobile Marketing function, not necessarily the same thing.

Mobile marketing covers a lot of space: videos, articles, SEO, Location Based Services, App development and distribution, in-app advertising etc... it's a long list and on that list is SMS.
