mobi domain names ?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by siraxi, Nov 24, 2009.

    Hi

I want to have a site / page specific for mobile users.

Do you think I should go for:

    m.mysite.com
    mobile.mysite.com
    mysite.mobi
    mobilesite.com

Are .mobi domain names known to the public and appreciated as per the initial intention?

    Thanks for your help

You should adopt the standard format such as using by big company.
They will not use .mobi domain.
Instead they add subdomain to let their user access the site via mobile phone.

mobilesite.com,not bad.You should try to use domains such as this. .mobi is not that popular as .com.By the way, subdomain is not your wise choice.

As for an independent new site, the others may be good, but,if you are looking for the mobile version of the existing site, them m.yoursite.com would be much better.

the "m" subdomain seems to be what all major companies have been doing - I'd stick with that.

The general public doesn't know that the .mobi extension exists.

I would go with m.mysite.com as that's what all other big companies are doing. Foget about .mobi, it's a dead extention

Most people don't use the .mobi extension if they have a site for mobile users and such. I would go with the mobilesite.com domain.

    I went for
    site.com/iphone
    site.com/blackberry
    site.com/mobile

I prolly should fork for a .mobi to protect brand and to use what is probably the _right_ way

If the .com domain you want is actually available (or you already have it), I would DEFINITELY go for m.mysite.com. That's the default address I type in to my phone when I want a mobile version of a site, and it usually works.

Also I would add a CNAME for mobile.mysite.com and redirect it to m.mysite.com. You could even do that for the .mobi domain too...
