Mixing Adsense with my own custom ad server.

    Folks,

I'm wondering about the terms of service related to more than one ad system on your pages.

I have my own ad system that serves affiliate ads (revenus is CPA not CPC/CPM) automagically on pages in various formats. Now the google terms say that you can't use a service that is similiar to google or attempts to look like google - which I'm definitely not.

However, they *do* say they don't allow affiliate links, which didn't make sense unfortunately, anyone care to explain.

    Cheers,

The affiliate ads that you serve on your site? are they banner ads, linking and promoting your affiliates? If yes, then you shouldn't have any problem with Adsense.

I don't get the second part of your question about 'they *do* say they don't allow affiliate links'. Are you talking about Adsense or Adwords here?

    "Competitive Ads and Services

We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads. If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links
    ."

No, I mean I generate Ads, with an affiliate ID for various products that may be relevant to the site I'm placing the ads on. So, although I don't get a CPC/CPM revenue, I do get revenue from the affiliate earnings. Not in banner format, basically text Ad style with a link and optional Image.

Now, the question is really is this a violation and the wording they use could easily mean they don't like Adsense on affiliate sites period.

You are allowed to run as many as you would like, you just may not run any other "contextual" network ads. I use a banner rotater and adsense, works just fine and there are no problems with it.

Hmmm.. I guess technically they are contextual in that they are targetted per page.

I guess google probably has a problem with TextLinkAds and Adsense on the same page (this is much closer in the mechanics that say a banner and adsense) ?

Google has no problem with textlinkads and adsense on the same page. I do it for a lot of my sites. AdSense can't even tell if you have TLA on your site, it's all server side.
