Mixing AdSense and other text ads by other companies

If AdSense TOS says it is against their terms to mix AdSense with text ads from other companies, why does Tripod free webhosting service get away with it?

You can now mix competing ads with AdSense. The only requirement is that the competing ads do not look confusingly similar to AdSense ads. Of course you'll have to check the rules of the competing ad service before doing this.

You can now. I think they even allow Adsense and YPN on the same site as long as the ads don't look the same, but how is this possible since they do look the same?

you dont want to compare some other service, they have high traffic so they get more benifits, tripod is used by millions.

you can keep other ads but generally keeping so many banners would make visitors run away from your site

. . . I agree, mixing ads from other competitors to AdSense would soon have your page looking like it's hosted with Tripod anyway. I was just curious how Tripod "got away with" it. Then, I need to pay more attention to TOS updates. One other thing I noticed is a friend is generating almost $800 per week with AdSense, although he has 30 sites or more up & running. The kicker is that many of his pages contain graphics next to or near the AdSense and he hasn't had any flak from Goog yet....makes you wonder how close they pay attention to what people are doing . . . .
