i need advice. I notice alot alot of people looking for the bluetooth technology spell bluetooth as blue tooth. how would i optimize my website for that keywords with misspellings without having it look like i don' tknow the real spelling? How do you go about this and how would u do it?
you could point links at your site with the mis-spelling in the text or you could just put the mispellings in alt tags or put the mispellings in small font
I once did: AAAXXX is also known as AAA XXX but AAA XXX is not the correct spelling, it should be AAAXXX.
Create a style in your style sheet: .short { word-spacing: -4px; } use the style in your html: blue<span class="short"> tooth</span> The result on screen is bluetooth, but the result to a spider is blue tooth. You could be extra safe an put the css in a folder that is disallowed in robots.txt.
I have a miss-spelling in one of my page which i made by mistake but it now ranks top for the keyword and the miss-spelling so i have just left it as it is. It wasnt in a prominent possition and it does bring in a tiny bit of traffic
Good advice above... But also, make sure the correct and incorrect spelling are in your keyword meta tag. This is pretty much the only remaining use for meta tags - so use it.
I've dropped misspellings into the title tags as well. Plus, don't be afraid to drop the misspelling once, maybe twice on a page. Nobody will get offended. I read a post a while ago somewhere where an SEO'er was ranking #2 for a good misspelling. He sent an anonymous email to his #1 ranking competitor 'correcting' their misspelling. They fixed it, thanked him, and dropped out of the #1 spot lol.
I don't think a SE would mind too much but I am actually just guessing. Have you seen it happen? Thanks.
Yes, but if it's reported, a human will take care of it I suppose, and unless he/she is that dumb won't take any action. I don't think most are that dumb. Of course there is a chance, but I personally believe it's very slim. Bye ferret!
You could use a clever tactic there. Find out the misspelt keywords and make a page on these by using a method like telling the people that most people type bluetooth instead of blue tooth etc.
i think i may make a page using blue tooth as the keyword and then at the end say something like most people still use blue tooth as two words rather than the correct spelling of bluetooth.
would this be a good article to target the misspelled keyword? http://www.bluetomorrow.com/content/section/181/285/ what do you think? All your help is appreciated
Brilliant! actual content, and you don't look stupid writing it the wrong way as you are explaining it how it should be written.
you probably still want to drive people toward a targeted goal...there is no call to action or links in the body copy of that page
the whole goal of this article was to get the visitor who is unfamiliar with the correct way to spell bluetooth since many people spell it as blue tooth. I just want them on my website. The goal is to get them to look at the rest of the site.
