after the way the missing madeleine case has been handled by the police in portugal i think it is highly unlikely that this case is ever solved. firstly the police did not seal the apartment and area straight after the child was reported missing, as would have been the case in the UK, and important forensic evidence was overlooked for many weeks, only later picked up by the police after contamination could have occured with other guests having been allowed to rent the self same holiday apartment. also, the parents, the prime suspects in any case of this nature, were not formally interviewed as suspects until 3 months after the event, despite discrepancies in their statements. and we now know that a leading portugese detective on the case investigated a similar case of possible child abduction just a few miles from where maddy went missing, a year or so before maddy's disappearence, but instead of exploring all possible avenues he blamed the mother, had her beaten into a confession and she is now in jail, with no body having been discovered of her child. notice any glaring parallels here? i just think that because of the incompetence of the portugese police maddy may never be found and a serial killer of small children may literally be getting away with murder!
