Well, call him as soon as possible and said that you were too busy and didn't have a chance to call him.
Believe me, your daddy loves honesty. Besides, he loves you much, he will not care about this little mistake you did.

Spend a quality day out with him and wihtout any office work and all. They would be the best gift even if you have forgotten his birthday and also this birthday would then be his best one and one he could cherish for years.

Spending some quality time with him is probably the best way to go. Of course, that depends on your relationship with him! Gifts only mean so much. As parents get older, quality time with their grown children is usually much more meaningful than anything you can buy.

Try slipping off the edge of a toilet and hitting your head.
When you get a vision of the flux capacitor, sketch it on a piece of paper.
    Wait 30 years.
Steal plutonium from Libyans and install flux capacitor into Delorean.
Go 88mph and see some serious shit.
    Go back to Dad's birthday.
...try not to have your mom fall in love with you.

Just go and hug him. Spend a whole day with him. Do some special cute things for him. Ask him to forgive you as you somehow forgot his b'day. I am sure he will hug you back and will not feel anything bad. Parents always love their child, so dont worry at all. :D :) and ya wish him from my side too. :)
