Missed domain opportunity by hours

After hearing on CNN that there are more than 17,000 bridges in the US that are rated "structurally deficient''. Then I saw I happen to be in a state with one of the highest % of these bridges and thought maybe it would be a good idea to have a website that identifies these problem bridges and works to correct this situation.

Not too sure I would even be capable of tackling such an undertaking... I looked up the domain "BadBridges.com" and found someone already grabbed it only 3 hours ago.

Oh well... Guess I just have to keep brainstorming and be quicker next time. :D

Anyone else got similar stories... successful or otherwise ?

Not sure what kind of info I would of been able to dig up from state agencies and stuff... but with this topic being the hottest news story in the US right now... it may have been something worth giving my best shot. I was also thinking maybe enlisting the help of the internet community... it could of generated interest much like a "gas prices across the nation" type of website.

Anyway... I think I would have been able to get much more posted at this time than the current owner. It still shows a parked page. And other domain name variations I can come up with... just don't seem to cut it.

please do not try to make money off of this tragedy. I was lived in NY when 9/11 and 2 days later fools were on the street selling T-shirts and other garbage.

Well here what you can do.

Make a category ot STATES, and let people report their nearest bridge, and let people open topic talk about their bridge.

More photo post getting more people to talk in the forum could work.

To clarify... this was just an idea that popped into my head... and I have not acted on the idea and I am kind of just thinking aloud at this time.

I don't think I mentioned anything about turning this into a profit maker... but it would take some revenue to run something like this. I found a database available listing our nation's bridges that would cost up to $180. I have also found plenty of reports that are in the public domain and plenty of press releases made available by our government.

Minnesota has been ignoring that bridge since 1990. My home state has 6,000 bridges which are structurally deficient and our governor says it's too soon and wants to wait until officials learn what caused the 35w bridge to collapse before making any decisions in our state.

Don't we pay taxes that should be taking care of this ? Shouldn't our officials be held accountable for their decisions that we are paying them for ?

Wouldn't it be a greater tragedy to continue to ignore this problem... until another one collapses... possibly one of those in my neighborhood ?

Seems my thread has gone in some totally different direction ;)
SO... Instead of any new website project... I decided to tackle this with an article and photos and post to my photo blog (which ain't quite as active as I would like it to be). Bring on those lawsuits (and free publicity) :p
