Is it a good idea to target common mispellings of a keyword? Does anyone do this and get decent traffic from it?

Are you referring to mispellings on domain names or words in the contents?

I was referring to words in contents, but thoughts on mispelling would be interesting as well.

qooqle.com(QOOQLE) might be good, wonder what thier traffic is like.

Well.. I did try that for a while, but didnt do any good to me. 1 maybe 2 a day got to my site for the miss-spelled keywords.

Which I have checked the G results were about 1,050,000 for the actual kw. tried the most used miss-spelled 4 kws. with the results of 25k in total. didnt do any good. were at first 20 in most of them. And there was no competition at all.
then I moved them. because in 7-8 weeks I had onlyless than 30 visitors in 7-8 weeks.

Maybe I didnt do it right.. maybe the target kws was wrong.. or what ever.

Google has a spell check... Assuming you searched "moeny",
Google will say: "Did you mean: money" More often than not, I'll click on the corrected spelling and ignore the contents with mispells

I guess that spell check could put a damper on that idea. I tried searching for Brittany Spears and Google recommended britney Spears.

Maybe the mispelt domain idea might be better.

It used to be a good idea. But since search engines started to suggest the right word for misspled search keyword, i do not find it appealing anymore

Yes for example a month ago a new site was mentioned on CNN called http://celebritygirlfight.com. I of course immediately registered celeberitygirlfight.com knowing a lot of people mispell that word. Well since then (few months ago) I've gotten a grand total of 300 uniques from the misspellings while I know the actual site gets THOUSANDS daily.

It's really not a good way to go (as far as domains) in my opinion but for mispelled content I myself have found a few interesting sites searching google (usually forums) when I was searching for popular software and someone mentioned it but mispelled it. I do that because even though Googel suggests the right spelling I can't help but peek at the results before I click the correct spelling search.

Thats for the iopinions. Seems like you can bank on peoples stupidity, at least not in mispellings.
