Feature Minimum Post Quality Thresholds

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by digitalpoint, Jul 10, 2014.

At the top of all threads (this one included) you should see a slider that allows you to set the minimum post quality threshold for your account.

The slider will look something like this (but will vary based on the browser you are using):

    upload_2014-7-10_9-7-44.png

What this does is hide posts under whatever post quality threshold you set.

The short version is you can now hide low quality posts automatically.

And since the question about how it determines "message quality" will no doubt come up... Internally it's scoring every post using the same technology we developed for scoring quality of articles for sale in the article marketplace.

If you use the "Minimum Post Quality" slider on this thread, what posts are filtered out when you do that? :)

Yep... if you crank it up to 800, the majority of posts would be filtered out. :)

I am not able to see the slider as you have shown in the first post @digitalpoint. There's a blank field in which I have to put a threshold number manually. Filtering happens as I put and change numbers. Is the slider not appearing due to some browser compatibly issue? I am using Firefox 19.0.2 on Linux. Distro is Ubuntu 10.10, Release 10.10 (maverick), Kernel 2.6.35-22-generic, Desktop Environment - GNOME 2.32.0.

What's the max threshold count you can set?

Probably a browser that doesn't support HTML5 input types...

    Edit:
Yeah... looks like Firefox 23 was the first version that supported the more modern "HTML5" input types...

    http://caniuse.com/input-range

The highest value you can use normally would be 800.

Oh OK. I guess it's time for an upgrade.
Thanks for the useful link BTW @digitalpoint.:)

One more thing. Since this post quality checker is based on the same application used to measure quality of content in article marketplace, is it using the same parameters? Esp. those you've mentioned here -

I know it's difficult but maybe some day we can come up with trophy points for users with maximum post quality score.;) Surely that'd require scanning and processing tons of data, but I guess it may somehow help to raise the overall post quality. Hope that's not a bad idea.

I'm sure it's something super sophisticated, like .. number of different words in a post. :p

I hope that this doesn't base on the grammar because obviously every replies or threads I created would be filtered out, it's a bit of insulting especially that not everyone have the perfect skills in grammar and spelling. Can't help myself, as I am hard of hearing which caused my grammar to be so poor as American Sign Language is my primary language which is still English but more so broken English that skips several words.

Example for English Vs American Sign Language:
English: I am going to the store.
    ASL: I'm going store.

Your average score is actually super high in the system, so no... it doesn't just look at grammar and spelling. :)

@Joshie, I set the bar to 61 (which I believe is actually 610 in the scale that @digitalpoint referenced and your post above still showed. BTW, your grammar, spelling and syntax is fine compared to a lot of posts on DP. And, that is not an aspersion against the non-English-speaking folks on DP. I have no doubt that I would be completely unintelligible if I had to learn to post in a language other than English. I might use Google translate or something, but it would be brutal as I am not good at all with languages other than English. In fact, let me take it a step further: I doubt that I would have the initiative and ambition to participate in a forum based on a non-English language.

Looks good... But I'm not sure how this contributes to the forum? Are you trying to keep 'low quality' posts out of the conversation? What exactly constitutes 'low quality'?

This is a nice little addition, good work guys/gals! Won't be using it 100%, but definitely could see this application being used as a tool to make the time spent on DP studying & researching more efficient.

all that's stuck in my head right now is ...but it goes to 800.
