Ok so I am thinking of what my next website should be, and I'm using the overture keyword bid/search tool. If the keyword is getting less than 2,000 searches a month according to the tool, how many Google searches do you think that is? Or do you have a certain number of searches that must be reached before building a site about that niche? For example - widgets must be searched at least 10,000 times per month or else it won't be worth my time to make a site about it...
I don't even know anymore. That tool seems pretty inaccurate. Used to multiply by 3 or 4 and it's was usually pretty close. I hope that is not the only factor in your decision making process.
It really depends on what you're looking at. I mean, if you're doing long-tail..a medium number of searches is fine (of course a site would target a many long tail searches)..Otherwise, hmm apart from the overture tool, you also need to look at adsense bids (to see how competitive the niche is..even if you don't plan on using adsense/adwords)..
Make sure that however many searches the terms get, that you get involved in a niche that you at least have some interest for. When you've got a passion for something it makes working on it so much easier.
Yeah I've been looking around my room seeing what I could make a site about, and I thought of this one. There aren't very many pages when I search for the keyword(s) so that must mean it's not very competetive... but it doesn't get searched too much either.
