I have an established site that is a PR5. The original domain name is terrible and I want to change it. I have purchased a new domain name and have put up a 301 redirect to the original domain. After the new domain is out of the sandbox, I intend to move the entire site to the new domain and put up a 301 redirect from the old domain to the new domain. I intend to do an agressive link building campaign. The question is should start the campaign now or wait until it is out of the sandbox? Will it matter? What about redirecting existing reciprocal links to the new domain. Is that wise? What other steps should I be taking to insur that I maximaze PR pass through to the new domain.
Note : Not every domain enters the sandbox. Some do, some don't. SOme stay 2 months, some stay 12 months etc. You should start the campaign right now, and work on it slowly, not agressively. As for the 301 permanent redirects, yes ... A redirect to the new domain pages would be very wise. You should also try to get to each of your link-back, and maybe modify the link to go to the new domain (do not forget DMOZ, whic has a nice update function).
