mini-sites vs maxi-sites

I invite discussion on this subject.

The supporters of mini-sites or blogs praise the idea of having many tiny tightly focused sites or blogs on micro-niche subjects. ("Acne on my left elbow", "Collecting 18th century watch chains" etc.)
They say: "If each site only makes $1 a day and you have 200 of them.... " :D

Well, the problem is they mostly don't make $1 a day because you simply can't promote and add fresh content and backlinks to 200 sites so they languish in obscurity.

So do maxi-sites work better? By maxi-sites I don't even mean the "acne" niche which is a tough niche by itself. I mean a site called "Health Matters" or whatever where acne is only one problem discussed in one area.

You could spend the rest of your life working on a site like that, adding health articles and getting more and more backlinks to individual pages.

But then you will have missed out on that really hot niche about 18th century watch chains. :)

Which method works better for you?

The problem is you're not providing enough for a maxi-site. Maxi-sites are best if you have an overabundance of information on a whole number of things. Not just the watch chains.

For fresh content you only need 250 words to be added. Sometimes less than that. Outsource the content. Take some profits and find someone on Odesk to write you a bunch of 250 word articles. Might take you some time to get someone worth a shit but once you do you'll get way more out of them than the $1.11 you pay them.

Then you just paysome one else to post the content for you or if your using wordpress you just up load it and have it automaticly drip feed it onto your blog.

The mini site method does work, it just takes a little time to get set up.

It doesn't matter what size the site is, in order to make money, you need daily hits in the four digits, and that takes mostly advertising.

I have heard about having, say, 200 sites, and making $1 off of each one everyday, but it just does not work that way.

The number of visitors doesn't really matter. The point is that you can convert these visitors. If you have 1 million visitors everyday and you can't convert them well, I rather you have a simple affiliate site that makes $50 per day.
