Mini Site/Landing pages Question

Hey guys. I have a quick question about mini sites. I have a site that sells multiple products and has a PR of 4. What would be the best address for my mini site that focuses on just one product?

    Options:
    1. www.myshoppingsite.com/minisite.html (mini site hosted on main store domain)
    2. www.specificproductname.com (mini site hosted on own domain)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'd personally host the mini site on its own domain.

    1) People arriving at your main site are more likely interested in the multiple products you are selling. There for you mite not get the attention to your mini site product you are wanting.
    2) By having the mini site hosted separately you are able to place a link on your main site to the new domain which is gonna give it a boost in the SE's right away and build you an authority minisite much quicker than usual. At this point you will now have 2 sites that are doing well but also related, rather than one site. Diversify is the key. In a short while you could have 5 new mini sites all separately doing well in the SE's and they can all link between each other.

To me this is much more important than having one main site. Then when one of your mini sites starts to do well and generate good sales you can focus on that one specifically, then once again link that back to the others, thus pulling them all up in the SE's.

After some time, having 3 or 4 dominant sites is more important than 1 main site.

    IMO

    cheers

Thanks Rich. I will buy a domain with the product name and promote it.

You are better off having it hosted on its own domain but im not sure about the productname as the url. Try and cram a keyword or two into the url instead.

If you use the product name you may run into problems, ie the product owner may refuse to let you use their product name. They are sometimes a bit dodgy about that sort of thing.

I would do both. Let me explain why

    1) On existing PR 4 sites. IF Google is trusting your site (and at PR4 it probably is) then ranking for related keywords is going to be very easy by comparison to a new site. Backlinks will count for more etc.

Since you will likely to backlinking to a new site with articles, profiles etc then pushing an additional backlink to the existing site is easy.

It also allows you to link from your PR4 site to your new site in a way that ensures it is relevant - giving you a powerful backlink you control

    2) New site. Whilst no longer as important keywords in the domain are still massively powerful - by creating a domain with the keywords you want you will give a useful boost.

PR4 link from main site gives a powerful boost

You can set the site up exactly as you want without worrying about other sales etc

Your 'out'. Should you wish to get out of that site you can sell it, not really an option unless you wanted to sell the WHOLE PR4 site

In addition having both can help you dominate the SERPs for that/those keyword(s)

I would use my own domain name and put the main keyword in the domain name. Just don't use a product name in the url. Just my thoughts.

Well for me, I can say that using the keyword as a new subdomain will be a great idea. It is what I exactly do for each of the products that I want advertised individually.

What is the advantage of that vs separate domains? My understanding is that Google treats sub domains as new sites, not passing over any authority from the TLD
