Milliondollar Quitter

Alex Tew has decided to quit his studies for a year (how many times did we ever hear that?) in favour of re-starting them in September, after he has been out in the big wide world and possibly taken up one of the jobs he has been offered. Do you think they will allow him a day-release study package?

    Boo the Tew !!!

Weak. The whole point of raising the money was to fund his Uni life. Stitch-up.

I say congrats to him. The point of giving him money is getting clicks. He followed through with that, for sure.

Which one of us would be saying no to all of those opportunities, just so that we could continue our studies? These offers will not be valid forever. He can always continue his education later. He has to strike while the iron is hot and I think most of us would.

I have to disagree. How many wannabe athletes drop their last year of college to hit it big - blow out their knee, and then they're screwed.

Besides, as mentioned, the entire point of his scam, uh scheme, was to support his college education.

With that kind of cash, he could finish out college and do even more with the money with a better education.

Can't say that I'm surprised, but disappointed for sure.

Valid points stuw, but I did something similar when I was in college. I got offered a fabulous job and said, "oh, no big deal, I'll finish up later" .... it took another ten years almost to get my first degree.

Just speaking from experience, once you "put off" until tomorrow, there tends to be a whole lot of tomorrow's ....

Congrats to the guy, he had a cool idea and made the most of it. I doubt he expected it to be as successful as it was but good on him that it did what it did. He'll get more education looking at the deals and jobs that he's been offered than he ever will from uni. Will they teach him at Uni how to make $1,000,000 in less then 6 months, I don't think so.

If he won't be able to manage the fortune that luck and maybe some well trained marketer brought to him, he will get broke in a year or so ;)

for the moment, he has been a very very smart guy ;) would be nice to hear his voice here in DP

How do you know he had a marketer and why say it was luck and how do you know he'll be broke in a year, soulds like sour grapes and jealousy to me.

I still say congrats to the guy again and I'm sure as well as the many copycats there will be plenty of idiots waiting for him to fuck up who should get on with their own ideas

Can't wait to see him on R&J tomorrow (I watch it religiously... yeah, I'm sad)

I think this makes sense. It's ironic that the thing which he created to enable him to go to university, is now keeping him away from university.

I've always said his idea was unique, but not worth the publicity. Without the marketer who released the story to CNN and other major news stations, he simply wouldn't have got anywhere. The student sob story also contributed, it made people listen, that's all that's need for a successful website.

I don't think he needs a degree in Business to get anywhere in the business world. Infact, everyone I know who studies 'Business' at university does it to party and drink for 3 years of their life. The qualification isn't worth much, and he could probably get a much better job by just throwing down a newspaper in the interview.

I bet the gold digging girls in his Business class regret it ;)

Envious over someone who made a million dollars. Problem is on the net making even a small amount of money consistantly is hard (for average people) so making a million dolars is like !!!111!!!!! OMG !!!!!. However, Doctors and lawyers and businessmen can make that much easily. On the net it is much harder to make that kind of money (as well as much more uncommon) so a million is percieved to be a much bigger number. ALso, its best not to be envious over the success of milliondollarhomepage because it isnt how real business gets done. It was a fluke essentially. A seemingly random event that make a few people a lot of moeny.

I would like to point out to the sceptical, that people can actually post critical views without necessarily being jealous.
Critiquing something that is not successful is just as much fun :)

I do find the fact that Mr.Tew has opted to quit his infamous studies intriguing, although I am more interested at what kind of potential employer would want him to leave? Surely they would prefer someone who had a full understanding of the ins & outs of business, as opposed to a 10 page website?
Must surely be a company that wants to say "we employed him", and then quietly dismiss him after a probation period, for not knowing enough about the business world?
Makes no sense to me, I would go for the degree full steam ahead (especially with the knowledge I had banked a few 100K) unless he feels that his studies have been sufficiently disrupted that he has already lost his way.
