its because the idea was stupid but only because it was a first and because he claimed hed make 1million off it, it worked out. I assure you if he just started the page selling ads and didnt claim he would reach 1 million someday he would of never sold jack :p

    Did you read the post?

$990k - tax and other probable expenses (ie. one of the best marketers alive) and Paypal / 2CO / Exchange Rate fees leaves around $500,000.

The current auctions price is $150k, not a million.

$1million isn't much anyway, can hardly buy a decent house in a decent area of London with that. If he had a decent accountant, they would write off alot of stuff (employees, IT equipment, ect), but as he's known worldwide, and he's basically admitted he's got family members to handle everything for him in his blog, not much chance of that :)

Just a thought but I am guessing if this "Alex" is a Brit then he would have offshore corporate accounts in Jeresy possibly or any haven to take advantage and lower take burdens. After it took off I would bet that a this was considered and implemented.

lets get our brains to work, just concentrate in "STUPID IDEAS" "STUPID IDEAS", I think I'm going to get drunk so i can come up with a retarded idea, write it down(if I can) and the next day start the project. :p

I don't think it had much to do with the idea.
It was 'unique', but it wasn't groundbreaking and certainly wasn't worth the publicity it got on the idea alone.

It was the 'sob student' story which game him the publicity and ultimately the money. So basically the marketers job.

That's insane. The price it's going for now is extremely high. Now there are a load of ''pixel sites'', but most have none-little ads on them.

Guys.. I think that many people are forgetting.. the best ideas without good marketing are nothing.. A bad idea with great marketing can be a huge succes.. I am not saying Alex had a bad idea at all, but the marketing is what REALLY made it...

Um it was still mostly luck. Thousands of new things are marketed every day; vast majority of them fail. This is just luck. Yea it shows the power of marketing just like winning a lottery ticket shows the power of luck. I can hardly wait till this bloody action is FINALLY OVER so we can stop talking about htis. This has to be the longest acution ever.

Bidding is now at $160,109.09! In first few days it was constantly rising, but now it has slowed down i dont think he's gonna get more than $200,000.00 with only 2 days 7 hours left.

Anyways its still a lot of money for the pixels worth 2k.

Don't be so sure.... most of the heavey weights often wait until the last few hours then go crazy. I think there may be some crazy action when it's closer to the auction end.

That's definitely the way it's going to go down. You see that all the time on EBay.
