i would assume just a lucky search query on how to promote with pr. though, alex has mentioned reading some guru books and robert allen is a client of imal's, so maybe he mentions her as a source in one of his books. i have looked for his original release but never found it - it could be possible she sent it directly to the media - but it wasn't on prweb.
http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=5652179487 I think that 'united-states-governmentcom' guy might be a fake!!! Though that domain does exist....under construction.
That's what I thought at first too.. but his auction is for "pre approved bidders" only.. so one would have to be pre-approved to be able to bid on it.. so I think it's legit..
That just means that you have to send the following information: Your name Your company name Your address Your phone number(s) Your e-mail address Your eBay id The URL you would like your pixels to link to if you win the auction So it is just as easy to fake.
When you look closely at this, the whole marketing idea is an act of genius. Whoever wins the auction is going to have massive exposure throughout the world, how much would it cost to get that much exposure?, whatever the final bid, I still think in marketing terms they will get a bargain. Alex and especially his PR team are extremely clever. I take my hat of to them.
Indeed. If I was NIKE or some other big company, I would have bough 468x60 banner on the site for 28080 USD, making it the biggest and putting it on nr. in the bought pixels list and then would later bid 50.000 for the last pixels. This much publicity would normaly cost 500.000 or so for them!
From a press release sent out nine minutes ago... That's 17,280,000 Megs in one day, or.....17,280 GIGS A DAY!!!!!!!!!
There's a big difference between peak and sustained bandwidth - I seriousely doubt they are pushing 17 TBytes/day, even though yea, he's getting a ton of press/buzz - hats off to him. The eBay counter will probably pass 100,000 today.
False promise or at least one he can't control. Could get him into trouble if legal whizz combs through the deal on offer. He's getting well cocky - I wonder whether this was his '15 minutes' or whether we'll get to hear more 'genius' stuff from him.
I feel like going on his auction and leaving a spammy question along the lines of: "Do you think my amaizing new free website http:// offering free whatever will be accepted?
lol, I admit, he's done well, but I'd like to see him try something 'original' without the backing of international media coverage. By the way, is it me or does the amount of 'Reserved' pixels on his site seem to increase everyday? I'm guessing people paid with hacked Paypals, but still, they're saying 'PAID & RESERVED'. It was a rule, when purchasing the pixels that the icon couldn't be changed ever again, so I don't understand how there's 10x10 pixels (we're not talking thousands of dollars worth of big blocks purchased by a big company) but 10x10 pixels with 'R' for reserved in them. How come someone paying $100 gets the right to break that rule when there's probably thousands of people who would gladly pay $100 and comply with the rule. Weird.
From the bid history it seems a DP member has been trying to snap this up too: justoneuk_dot_com ( 0 ) - I think that's our friend Soliciters Mortgages. If the current highest bidder wins, there's some SEO opportunity there. SERPs for 'great deals depot' are very weak and if they indeed win it you might be able to steal some traffic. 7 days left to start ranking.
$25,322.22 now. Who in their right mind (apart from the bidders) would pay $25,322.22 to have a wee image among hundreds of others? Here if you want pay me $100 each and I'll build one of these jobbies.
