Google has indexed almost 1,000 pages from a site I'm running. We are going to v2 which will be a completely new setup. Thing is I want to archive the v1 version ... either to a subdirectory or domain ie archive.domain.tld ... But both will give 404 faults ... so I'm wondering what would be the best way to make an archived version without pissing of Google ... and other SEs. Make 1,000 301 redirects? Or perhaps tell Google what's up when Google Webmaster Tools shows faults with the gone command? Anyone tried this - should I simply not care, and just let things go their natural way?
