Hi! I have two big forums that we are thinking of updating to vb4. I would like to hear from people who have done this what can we expect? Many bugs? Plugins dropping out? Should I wait for more stable versions? Also in terms of developer time for the migration...is this a two week full time job? More, less? Thank you in advance!
This should cover everything you *should* do to the core vBulletin product: http://articles.digitalpoint.com/content.php?r=7-Optimize-vBulletin-4 As far as any custom stuff you've done (or plug-ins you use), you will need to check with the developers to see if they work with the new version.
Thanks Shawn! I'll definitely bookmark these tips. You know I am not a big techie so I don't understand all the complicated stuff (except doing stuff on the admin cp). In your opinion, if I need to hire a short-term developer to do the migration, how much time should I allow and what are going rates for someone professional?
Though the initial VB4 release went bad and had a lot of bugs, I think it has gotten better with the new version releases. I suggest moving to VB4 if you're ready and have a general feeling of how the software works.
