I have an older 1.0 Joomla site which is my flagship site and it's been working great however, my virtuemart is giving me a lot of trouble. Some orders don't go through and I think I am losing a lot of my customers because the old code is outdated against newer browsers and so on. So I want to take my old Joomla and turn it into the 1.5.8 through migration. I am very good at Joomla but I have never done the migration and I have a lot of stuff on this site. Is it easy? If I hired will it cost a lot? Is there a benefit going to the new Joomla/Virtuemart? How long does it take? Just some questions I am thinking about. Any advice would be great. Thanks Adam
You will need a working Joomla! install, using the latest available release of Joomla! 1.0 is always the best option. if you are using 1.0.13 you install Rob Schley's patch for admin sessions. As with everything you should take a full backup of everything before you start just in case something does go wrong.i advise that you do not destroy your 1.0.x install until you have completely finished migrating to 1.5 and are happy that things are working properly. follow the link bellow it could be very helpful: http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla15/joomla_upgrade.htm
Sorry I never got back to you Juka. I have been moving and traveling around Asia. I also wanted to ask if there was a company or someone out there that would handle the migration of my entire site to include Virtuemart that maybe you could recommend. I really need to do this as soon as possible. Adam
