Migrating Hosts, What types of hiccups can I expect as far as emails go? (questions.)

I am migrating hosts for my boss to devoted hosting from godaddy and I need to make the transition as seamless as possible.

    Is there a way to
1.) Backup all emails for a just-in-case scenario
2.) transfer the emails to the new server (i don't think so)

    3.) Make the transition seamless?
For number three i want to do this at like 3:00am i guess I need to make sure they don't lose any emails....

So If i setup the email addresses via CPANEL on devoted hosting and then just type in the new name servers for the domain (which are on Godaddy), it should just tick over at some point and the devoted hosting servers should start receiving the emails right? and then in the morning I can re-do my bosses computer/ iphone email settings in the morning right?

Will there be a big gap when emails are lost into limbo?

What types of Hiccups can I expect?

    1. Connect to GoDaddy using an email client via IMAP now copy the lot to your PC
    2. Once the domain has updated connect to the email account via IMAP and put the emails back into the mailbox
    3. It takes 24 - 48 hours for a nameserver change to be finalised during that time both servers will potentially receive emails, therefore at step 1 make a note of the IP of the IMAP server at GoDaddy, then once the domain has updated connect to GoDaddy via IMAP copy off any new emails so you can move them to the new server where your boss can read them. Assuming you set the mailbox up on the new host before changing the domain you won't loose emails just you don't know which server will get them.

    Thanks tolra

So I've had a thought, They can just login to godaddy webmail to get the last few emails that might still get sent there in the event there are left overs. We wont cancel the godaddy account for a few weeks to make sure that none of the emails get deleted.

It doesn't matter how you get the emails so yes webmail should work fine as long as you don't reference it via the domain name.
