Microsoft's Cash Back Google Search Killer

Microsoft is going to give rebates to folks who buy from their ads. Kinda goofy I think, as who uses MSN Live to search for anything? I don't think Microsoft has ads on anything but some large sites versus Googles millions of small publishers. Maybe they should just stick to software??.

Funny; Live sends me lots of traffic daily. Good for them.

Yeah, you can get a whole $9 back after purchasing an $800 camera. Woohoo

(Of course, the rebates do vary.)

well, as far as i can see, this has nothing to do with adcenter and MSN ads, so apparently you cannot compare it to google since google doesn't have anything like this. It all is a big site with affiliate products in it. Microsoft gets paid per lead, and then gives a portion to the buyer. Kinda like ebates.com

The percentage is set by the merchants in the program. So some areas (electronics/cameras) are going to have a lower % than other areas due to markup.

How could this possibly be a google killer? They do not provide anything more in search functions. People looking to by items go to other places.

It's a solid market entry strategy and no doubt will make MS more money in the long term... there's still a large MS population out there that will sign up for this program
